Space, Rocket and Missile Category Guidelines

By Mike Mackowski, July 17, 1999

After much thought, review of prior experiences, and discussion amongst the space modeling community, several revisions were adopted by the Contest Committee for the 1999 National Contest. The following list attempts to summarize the new rules from the basis of subject placement.

Note that obvious items (Apollo, Mir, Mercury-Redstone, etc.) are not listed. This list is intended to help clarify borderline entries.

NOTES

1. If it never reached hardware (or hasn't yet), it goes in Hypothetical.

2. I proposed defining categories according to markings, but the Committee felt that modeling morphology was a better discriminator, thus V-2s go in Real Space, while a winged missile goes in the new UAV category.
